The Sims 5 remains largely a mystery to many of us. We know it’s out there, somewhere in the ether, but we don’t have many details regarding what the game will look like. Now, thanks to franchise VP of creative Lyndsay Pearson, we know the game will have multiplayer. “We definitely want to introduce multiplayer,” Pearson said on the One More Life podcast hosted by Radio Times. “Not multiplayer, in a big, scary ‘jump around a world full of strangers’ kind of way. But literally, how do you and your friends want to play together? And there’s a lot of different flavors, so We’re exploring a lot of different spaces out there. Pearson went on to talk regarding how multiplayer can mean different things in different games, which will be a particular challenge to bring that into a game like The Sims “We had a lot of fun exploring all these different opportunities, especially in the context of The Sims, because it’s still regarding these little characters, their little lives, and you helping guide them.” So what does it mean if you do this with me? How do we figure out how to bring that chaos, a little bit of fun, and a little bit of positivity together in a way that feels like The Sims? In this regard, the team making The Sims 5 seems to have taken inspiration from Animal Crossing. “This is a good example of my little space, my little island, but I can invite you over. Maybe, then, you won’t be spying on the same analog citizen with a partner, but if you want, you will be able to Visit each other’s towns and houses, as long as you don’t leave your friend’s analog citizens in the pool and remove the ladder.
