After having traveled the chain, the shores and the Caledonian seabed, little Tchia will set down her bags in Los Angeles on December 7. The video game of which she is the heroine is one of the nominees for the Game Awards, the equivalent of the Oscars for the video game world.

The work of the Awaceb studio, co-founded by Caledonian Philippe Crifo, enters the category of “Games for impact”, which highlights titles “thought-provoking, with a prosocial message or meaning“. The public vote, on the Game Awards websitewill determine the winner of this category.

In an email sent to New Caledonia the 1st, the Awaceb team said: “very proud” of this appointment, adding that it would be “another opportunity to talk regarding New Caledonia on the international scene“.

A great proof of recognition for Tchia, which since its release last March, has won over a large audience. Hailed by critics, the game crossed the threshold of one million copies sold worldwide, just six weeks following its launch. The title had also been integrated into the Playstation Plus catalog, which offers its subscribers several games free of charge each month.

A source of pride for its developers, Tchia is also a source of pride for many players on the stone. The open world was largely inspired by the Caledonian landscapes – whether the Loyalty Islands, the bush or even Nouméa – but also by numerous local references such as the bibiche, the tap shoes and the mission dress.

The developers also chose to highlight the Drehu language, in which the multiple songs of the title are performed. “Musically and spoken, it is very beautiful and very rich. As a Caledonian, it is the Kanak language that we have heard the most.” explained Philippe Crifo during a tour in Lifou, a few months before the game’s release.

Widely highlighted since the launch of Tchia, the Caledonian identity might benefit from additional visibility, in the event of victory on December 7 during the Game Awards ceremony.
