Bern (awp/ats) – La Poste is relying more on rail for the transport of parcels and letters on the east-west axis. From the timetable change in December, it will benefit from 84 daily train connections, compared to 77 until now.

Thus, in collaboration with CFF Cargo, nearly 470 postal wagons will be able to circulate every day, strengthening the share of rail in the transport of parcels. This proportion currently stands at around 50%, with the aim being to further increase this share over the coming years, said Titus Bütler, Transport Manager at Swiss Post, on the company’s website on Wednesday.

“It is therefore not longer trains that we need, but above all faster rail connections on the east-west axis, between the large parcel centers of Frauenfeld, Härkingen and Daillens,” he explains. .

Thanks to the new rail connections established with SBB Cargo, Swiss Post can save nearly 1.3 million kilometers of truck transport and around 1,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, explains Mr. Bütler.
