Oscar-winning filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have given the much-talked-regarding Coyote vs. Acme his seal of approval, describing the film as “delightful.”

Lord and Miller, the producers behind the animated hits Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and The Lego Movie franchise, took to X on Tuesday night to reveal that they had seen Coyote and attested to its quality.

“I saw COYOTE VS ACME and it’s delightful,” Miller tweeted. “Funny, charming, good physical comedy timing, with a surprising amount of heart. I hope several studios go following it so the world can see all the good work people did.”

Coyote Vs Acme is wonderful. @dgreenmachine nails it,” Lord tweeted. “Hilarious smart existential and moving and makes this all-time character more relevant than ever. ????????❤️”

Last Friday, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Dave Green’s movie would become Warner Bros.‘s third already-shot film to get shelved following previously nixing nearly completed projects Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt in August 2022.

The decision to shelve the film for tax reasons led to an outcry in the creative community. Sources told THR that following the Coyote news broke last week, several filmmakers instructed reps to cancel meetings they had on the books with Warners. But now that Coyote may ultimately find a new home, these filmmakers are taking a wait-and-see approach.

Warners ultimately performed a dramatic U-turn, and will now allow Green to shop the movie to other potential buyers instead of shelving the project for a tax write-off.

The $72 million film, a live-action, CG animation hybrid, starred John Cena and the iconic Looney Toons character Wile E. Coyote and boasted DC Studios co-head James Gunn as a producer. THR reported that, unlike the other films Warners canceled, Coyote was fully completed and had tested multiple times in the 90s.

Miller is among a group of filmmakers who had seen Coyote. Writer-director BenDavid Grabinski, who worked with Green on Happilytweeted: “Coyote vs. Acme is a great movie. The best of its kind since [Who Framed Roger Rabbit] … The leads are super likable. It’s beautifully shot. The animation is great. The ending makes everyone fucking cry. I thought the goal of this business was to make hit movies?”
