Horrifying changes in the behavior of orcas, also known as killer whales, have been discovered. Behaviors like psycho serial killers…hunting blue whales and sharks, the largest animals on earth, is their charm. Now it is not a normal killing. The killings were done by digging out the liver, squeezing out the tongue, bringing it to the surface of the water and suffocating it. Once fishing boats are caught, they are overturned and dragged into the depths. Sea urchins and salmon are tossed around like balls.
Some argue that this is a sign that orcas are becoming more intelligent. But orca scientist Josh McInnes says this is wrong. Brain changes are unlikely. They may exhibit certain innovations as the environment changes. He explains that human presence in the sea has increased and as climate change worsens, new strategies for survival may be developed. Orcas in Antarctica are common predators of wild seals. But when the ice melts, the leopard has acquired the ability to catch and eat seals.
