Aged 31 at the time of the facts, Rita Roberts might be identified thanks to a “black flower tattooed on her left forearm, with green leaves and ‘R’Nick’ written underneath”, according to a press release from the international organization for police cooperation.

“A family member in the United Kingdom recognized the tattoo in the media and notified Interpol and the Belgian authorities, via the Identify Me web page,” explains the institution.

Now, “the Belgian authorities are calling on the general public to clarify the circumstances of the death of Rita Roberts”. Testimonies and information can be sent by e-mail to [email protected], by telephone to the free number 0800/30.300 for national calls and to 00322/554.44.88 for calls from abroad .

The victim “was of robust build and measured approximately 1m70. She had dark mid-length hair and neat teeth”, specifies the wanted notice from the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office which adds that she “was wearing a t-shirt (blue dark, mauve and light green) with the inscriptions ‘SPLINTER’ and ‘1990’, dark blue sports pants with three green stripes from the brand ‘Adidas’ and dark brown hiking shoes from the brand ‘DAG’ – size 40”.

She left Cardiff for Antwerp in February 1992. “The investigation was able to determine that Rita would also have stayed in the Netherlands”, informs the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office.

These investigations were followed up in May by an Interpol campaign aimed at the population to help identify the bodies of 22 women found over several decades in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
