First test of Jetour Dashing. You are amazing…

Despite the fact that this is not the first time we have talked regarding the Jetour brand on the pages of our publication, I think it’s still worth talking regarding the brand itself once once more.

Jetour (read as “JetUr”) is a sub-brand of the well-known Chery automobile concern from the Middle Kingdom. The brand was formed in 2018 as a separate brand aimed at young buyers who love to travel. It is already represented not only in China, but also in the regions of the Middle East, Africa, Central and South America. If you believe the data of company representatives, the brand demonstrated one of the highest growth rates in China, selling 700,000 cars for the period from January 2018 to March 2023. Unlike Omoda and Exeed, in Russia Jetour is developing separately from the parent brand Chery as an official distributor of Jetur Motor Rus LLC. Today, 119 Jetour dealer centers are open in Russia. And according to company representatives, by the end of September 2023, since the start of sales in our market, more than 5,000 cars of the brand have already been sold.

We have already talked regarding the full-size crossover Jetour X90 Plus, but today we will talk regarding the compact urban crossover Dashing (read as “dAshing”).

Since company representatives say that the brand was created for those who love to travel, taking the gray (not the best color for this car) Jetour Dashing in the maximum configuration, my family and I threw things into it and went for the weekend from Moscow to St. Petersburg.

The tailgate in the crossover, as befits a modern car, is electrically operated, which is very convenient. It’s only a pity that the Chinese still don’t install a separate button with which you might immediately close both the trunk and the car. The luggage compartment volume is stated as 486 liters, which is not bad, but visually it looks very much like this data is right up to the ceiling. At least, following we loaded the Xiaomi Metal Carry-on Luggage 20″ suitcase, a couple of Skoda travel bags and a couple of bags, it seemed that there wasn’t much space, at least if you closed the curtain. On the other hand, for a city crossover the luggage compartment volume is quite decent, so there’s not much to complain regarding here. If you really want to transport large cargo, you can separately fold the backrests of the rear sofa from the passenger compartment to form a flat floor.

Despite a decent trunk for the class, the Jetour Dashing also has a very spacious interior, which can comfortably accommodate four adults or, for example, two adults and three children in the back; fortunately, the floor on the second row is flat, and the middle seat on the sofa is not entirely defective. Although I agree with my colleagues that it will still be more comfortable for two passengers on the sofa, especially since on the road you can fold down the large and comfortable armrest with cup holders hidden under the lid.

The front seats in the Dashing are pseudo-sports buckets with integrated headrests and a full package of electrical adjustments, although a passenger complained to me that he lacked a seat lift. I, in turn, was a little lacking in the length of the pillow or at least the elevator in its front part; it was present in the back. The chairs themselves are comfortable, with not very pronounced, but still noticeable lateral support, the correct profile and adjustable lumbar support in two planes. A run of almost 700 km with only one stop was easy and relaxed in the crossover seats – my back didn’t go numb, my butt didn’t fall off. To be honest, I didn’t even expect it to be so comfortable, since I was already used to the fact that in this kind of car, following a couple of hundred kilometers you begin to feel uncomfortable, but here everything turned out to be different.

By the way, why did I indicate at the beginning of the material that I took the maximum version of Dashing? The fact is that this modification differs in interior from the others. So, it has a floating central armrest, the Mercedes-style automatic transmission lever has been moved to the right steering column switch, and the center console features a huge 15.6-inch media system screen installed in landscape orientation. In addition, there are monochrome screens on the doors that display the temperature outside and the level of air pollution, which turned out to be very clear and convenient. Plus, the floating armrest made it possible to free up space for a stand for two smartphones, which is lined with soft material, and the devices, despite the fact that they stand almost vertically and do not have latches, are securely held in niches. In addition, smartphone displays are clearly visible from the driver’s seat, so on the road I used one of the devices as a navigator, launching Yandex Maps on it. The latter was done for a reason, but because the Dashing media system does not support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and there is only a screen duplication option, which I don’t really like in my work. In addition, I wanted to check the built-in Petal Maps navigation, which, when the car is connected to an access point via Wi-Fi, can work with traffic jams. Regarding this navigation system, I can say that it is not bad, it fibs a little on time and it builds complex routes in the city worse than a product from Yandex, but if something happens it can be useful to you, especially since it is conveniently and clearly projected on a large car display.

On the road, I was helped by adaptive cruise control, which works well in Jetour Dashing, seeing the traffic ahead in advance and smoothly slowing down in front of it. Once the lane is clear, the car just as smoothly and without delay begins to accelerate to the set speed. The cruise is activated in an unusual way – by double pressing the automatic transmission lever, but, in general, this is more a matter of habit. And you can set the desired speed using the left roller on the steering wheel, which in normal situations is responsible for regulating the temperature in the cabin. But what I was missing was a lane guidance system; the crossover only has lane control, which will signal you if you break the markings, but there is no guidance or retention in it. The assistant’s prompts are displayed on the left side of the central display, which turned out to be very clear, and warnings from the blind spot monitoring system are also displayed there, duplicating the same information on the side mirrors. Why was all the latest information displayed on the media system screen, you ask? But the fact is that the digital dashboard in the crossover is small, bright and contrasting, and you look at it through the rim of the steering wheel. All data on the dashboard is easy to read, but in order not to overload it and to avoid overlapping the necessary data with the steering wheel, the manufacturer has moved some of the secondary options to the left edge of the large monitor.

By the way, the manufacturer has put quite a lot of familiar options on the central display, for example, from it you can adjust the side mirrors (I spent a very long time looking for how to do this, I even had to contact the press park), control dual-zone climate control, turn on the heated steering wheel and all seats and front ventilation. Of course, it displays images from all-round cameras of very decent quality. In general, the central screen here replaces all sorts of buttons and knobs, the number of which is kept to a minimum in the Dashing cabin. Comfortable? In some cases yes, in others no, but rather it’s just unusual.

On the way to St. Petersburg, I had to charge a lot of gadgets, because I had forgotten something regarding it in advance, and I wanted them all to be in combat readiness upon arrival. And you know, Jetour Dashing turned out to be very convenient in this regard. Thus, there are five USB connectors in the cabin, one of which is USB-C at 60 W; the latter allows you to quickly recharge all Android smartphones. The only thing is that four USBs are located in the front of the car, in a niche under the floating armrest, two in the front, which is convenient, and two under the console, you can hardly reach them. The only plus is that the niche is quite large and has a rubber mat on it, on which the devices do not slip. For some reason, the manufacturer left only one USB for rear passengers, which was a little surprising. But in front of us, on the very center armrest, there is also 40 W wireless charging with additional cooling. It’s just a pity that the manufacturer didn’t cover it with a rubber coating, since my iPhone in the branded transparent case dangled back and forth on the corrugated but bare plastic.

Another difference between the maximum configuration of the Jetour Dashing is the presence of additional speakers in the driver’s headrest; in other modifications, the passenger has simply plugs and emptiness inside. The speakers serve as a convenient way to talk on the phone, acting as an individual headset, and we have already seen such a solution earlier in Changan UNI-K. I won’t say anything special regarding the main acoustics; in my opinion, they are not the best; the usual compositions from the playlist sounded somewhat flat and not particularly interesting in the crossover.

But you can always pump up the music in the car, but what you no longer need to do in the Jetour Dashing is additional sound insulation. Yes, I was surprised myself, but the city crossover turned out to be quite good in terms of noise, even the arches are adequately insulated, and the noise from the road on winter tires is practically inaudible. On the highway, we calmly communicated in the cabin, without raising our voices, which was even unusual, given the class of the car.

It is worth mentioning, of course, that our Dashing came with a gasoline turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 190 hp. coupled with a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two wet clutches and front-wheel drive. The remaining configurations presented on our market already come with a 147 hp engine. and with a six-speed manual or six-speed robot.

The engine of our car was sufficient both in the city and on the highway; in the latter case, there were no questions at all in order to overtake at speed; there was plenty of power. There is also nothing to complain regarding the box, it works quickly and usually without jerks, the latter only appearing if you are weaving in a traffic jam at low speed. The controls are slightly flimsy, biased towards comfort, and the “Sport” settings only make the steering wheel heavier and sharpen the response to pressing the gas, but do not change the overall character of the car.

But what I didn’t like was that the car is voracious; on the highway at an average speed of 120 km/h I was unable to achieve consumption below 10.3 liters per 100 km, which is comparable to consumption in the city in heavy traffic (I got 10.5 liters per 100 km). So the 57 liter tank on the way to St. Petersburg and back was not enough for me, and I had to refuel along the way. Another point that upset me is that the Dashing quickly gets dirty on itself, and in bad weather at speed it washes off all the dirt onto the driver’s side window, so I had to wash it at a stop.

But in general, I have more positive impressions from traveling on Jetour Dashing. It is quite soft and comfortable, with excellent sound insulation, a wide range of pleasant options and comfortable seats. Yes, there are some rough edges here, such as high consumption on the highway, the lack of a lane keeping system, a jerky robot when driving in traffic jams and a weak acoustic system. But overall, the car is quite impressive for an urban crossover.

Yes, we haven’t talked regarding the design of the car yet, but the Jetour Dashing has an attractive and unusual design, with an aggressive, fast front end, smooth contours of the hood and a powerful radiator grille. At the same time, the rear of the car is slightly chopped, but surprisingly, it fits perfectly with the rest of the body. The optics here are entirely LED, narrow, which is now fashionable, but at the same time visually they do not copy already slightly boring solutions, but are completely their own. By the way, the headlights in the car are good, the beam of light is concentrated and allows you to drive comfortably at night. We also have fashionable hidden handles on the doors, but they are not retractable, but reclining, which, in theory, should not cause any trouble for the owner in winter.

The interior design, especially in its maximum design, is absolutely cosmic. Moreover, it is minimalistic; here, apparently, the designers were inspired by Tesla, from which they even borrowed the controls on the steering wheel, but with their own touches. The materials inside are all high quality, at least those that are at eye level. There is soft plastic, Alcantara, artificial leather and decorative plastic panels. Below the level of sight, I would even say, below the door armrests, we already have simple bare plastic, not the worst, but hard.

Prices for Jetour Dashing start at 2,489,900 rubles, and the top-end configuration, as we tested, already costs 3,189,900 rubles.
