Actor Matt LeBlanc has offered an emotional tribute to his late co-star Matthew Perry, who died on October 28 at the age of 54. LeBlanc became the first “Friends” cast member to issue an individual statement since Perry’s death.
Through an Instagram post on Tuesday, LeBlanc expressed that the years working with Perry were “the best of his life.” Perry played Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom Friends alongside LeBlanc’s Joey Tribbiani character from 1994 to 2004.
“I say goodbye with a heavy heart. The times we had together are honestly some of the best of my life,” LeBlanc wrote alongside a series of photos from the series over the years, including one of the cast in an emotional group hug. “It was an honor to share the stage with you and call you my friend. I will always smile when thinking regarding you and I will never forget you,” he continued. “Spread your wings and fly, brother, you are finally free. Lots of love”.

LeBlanc closed his tribute with a reference to Friends: “And I guess you get to keep the $20 you owed me,” he commented.
Perry was on Friends for all 10 seasons of the series, which at the time was the No. 1 comedy on television, appearing in each of the 234 episodes. It was his role as Chandler Bing, opposite LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer, that defined his career.
LeBlanc, along with the rest of the main cast, issued a statement a few hours following the actor’s death to express their sadness and pay tribute to Perry: “We are completely devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than co-stars. We are Family. We have a lot to say, but for now let’s take a moment to grieve and process this unimaginable loss. Over time we will say more, as we are able. For now, our thoughts and love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
Days following Perry’s death, the cast of Friends issued a brief statement mourning the loss of “a family member.”
Perry was found dead in a private jacuzzi at his home in Los Angeles, official sources reported. Nicholas Prange, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department, confirmed the death, noting that the unit found “an adult male unconscious in a hot tub.” After an immediate medical evaluation, it was found that the subject had already died before emergency teams arrived at the scene. Currently, the investigation into the causes of death is in the hands of the Los Angeles Police Department and the County Coroner.
We are awaiting a detailed report from the coroner and the results of the toxicological test performed on Perry’s body, which are expected to be available in the coming weeks. In preliminary results, it was ruled out that Perry was under the influence of drugs such as cocaine or marijuana. However, his ex-girlfriend Kayti Edwards considered that Matthew had gotten rid of the evidence, and in contrast to what many argue, the actor did die from an overdose.

Following the death of Matthew Perry, a charity has been created that will bear his name and will focus on assisting people with addiction problems. The Matthew Perry Foundation was announced shortly following the actor’s death, in order to perpetuate his “steadfast commitment to helping those suffering from addiction.”
