2023 African Golden Lion: Moroccan Players Among the Nominees

The Al Mountakhab newspaper has revealed the 10 nominees for the African Golden Lion. This individual distinction rewards the best African player of the 2022-2023 season. And this year, three Moroccan players can claim this title.

The race to succeed Achraf Hakimi is open. The Moroccan newspaper Al Mountakhab has just revealed the list of 10 nominees for the 2023 African Golden Lion. The Paris Saint-Germain defender is logically one of them. But for once, he is not the only Moroccan player.

The goalkeeper of the national team and the Saudi club Al Hilal, 13th in the ranking of the last France Football Ballon d’Or and on the podium of the Yachine Trophy (3rd), also appears there. The Moroccan goalkeeper is coming off a full 2022-2023 season marked by a World Cup semi-final with the Lions in Qatar and a Europa League title with his former club, Sevilla FC.

The other winner of the C3 with the Spanish club, Youssef En-Nesyri is also one of the players named.

The rest of the preselection of 10 players established by the Al Mountakhab editorial team is made up of the Nigerian striker from Naples Victor Osimhen, reigning Italian champion and 8th in the Ballon d’Or ranking, the Egyptian Mohamed Salah, Liverpool star and winner in 2017, the Algerian Riyad Mahrez, winner in 2016, the Senegalese Sadio Mané, the Cameroonian goalkeeper of Manchester United André Onana, finalist of the UEFA Champions League last season with Inter Milan , Cameroon captain Vincent Aboubakar and Tunisian Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane.
