It took more than two weeks for Matt Leblanc, aka Joey, to pay a personal tribute to Matthew Perry, who died on October 28. No doubt the time for emotion, as the two actors formed this duo of inseparable roommates for many years in the series Friends.
“Matthew, it is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to you. These years spent together are honestly among my favorite years of my entire life,” writes Matt Leblanc, in a message posted on Instagram. “It was an honor for me to share the stage with you and call you my friend. I will always smile at you and I will never forget you,” he continues.
“You are finally free”
“Spread your wings and fly away my brother. You are finally free. I love you”, breathes the interpreter of Joey. And the actor ends on a note of humor. “I guess you keep those 20 dollars you owed me”, a reference to a “running gag” known to fans of the 1980s sitcom.
Shortly following his death, the stars of Friends said they were “totally devastated by the loss of Matthew”, in a joint statement, assuring that they were “more than just film colleagues”, but a real “family “.
Marta Kauffman and David Crane, co-creators of “Friends”, also paid tribute at the end of October to the unforgettable actor, saluting his importance and his investment in the series, in a role that only he might play: “C He was a brilliant talent. It’s a cliché to say that an actor makes a role his own, but in Matthew’s case, there are no truer words. From the day we first heard him play the role of Chandler Bing, there was no one else for us. »
A true cultural phenomenon, “Friends” left its mark on a generation of viewers. The series tells the adventures of a group of happy friends – Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Ross and Chandler – in New York, punctuated by romantic relationships including between Monica and Chandler and the endless saga between Rachel and Ross.
