“Lebanon Debate”
With the worsening security events on the southern front and the fear of their ignition, the head of the Lebanese Pharmacists Syndicate, Joe Salloum, called on pharmacists in a statement and in more than one statement to the media over the past few years to rationalize the dispensing of medicine to prevent it from being stored, destroyed later, or diverted by smuggling networks to… The black market, thus withholding it from a patient who needs it.
In this context, the former head of the Syndicate of Pharmacists in Lebanon, George Saili, pointed out that “rationalization of medicine does not occur only through announcing rationalization directives, but rather requires the implementation of a programmed electronic plan that is available in pharmacies.”
Speaking to Lebanon Debate, Saili said: “This plan is the responsibility of the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Pharmacists Syndicate, and it must be part of the emergency plan that is supposed to be implemented within the rationalization directives demanded by Captain Salloum.”
He stressed that “demands to rationalize medicine are not enough. Rather, they must be implemented on the ground through actual steps. Since the Corona pandemic until today, no actual action has been taken.”
He stressed that “despite calls to rationalize medication dispensing, there is no implementation on the ground,” so “I call on the Ministry of Health to cooperate with the Pharmacists Syndicate and all concerned parties in the health sector to develop a real, implementable plan.”
He believed that “smuggling, forgery, and theft are the only matters that are currently being implemented on the ground,” stressing that “this matter is the responsibility of the Minister of Health, Firas Al-Abyad.”
Saili revealed that “the White Minister is facing a problem with the Pharmacists Syndicate, so he has not been able to take any action so far,” considering that “smuggled and counterfeit medicine requires direct intervention from the Ministry of Health to deal with this serious problem that directly affects the lives of patients.” “.
