This infrastructure will take the place of the estate’s old swimming pool. It has been closed since August 31, 2019. There was talk of replacing it. The Province of Walloon Brabant had even obtained planning permission and subsidies from the Walloon Region to carry out this project. But faced with its cost, the operating costs of such an infrastructure and the financial constraints of the Province, particularly concerning the financing of the relief zone, the provincial authorities had, in January 2021, given up to this project.
The idea of a spray park then appeared to still maintain a water play area at Bois des Rêves, even if the two infrastructures are obviously not comparable. The cost of the project amounts to 1.85 million, 60% subsidized by the Region.
“There will be different spaces with water jets for all ages, comments the provincial deputy in charge of the Bois des Rêves, Isabelle Evrard (PS). As around the old swimming pool, there will be lawns around the installations to allow visitors to sunbathe, picnic, etc. The swimming pool was not a pool where people swam, people came there to relax and play. With the spray park, we are in the same spirit .”
However, its maintenance cost will be much lower than that of a swimming pool. “In addition, it is more ecological. The advantage also is that we can open the spray park more easily. It will therefore be accessible more days per year than the swimming pool which was open from June to the end of August .”
There will be a charge for access to the spray park, but the price has not yet been set. Entry arrangements are also being considered. “The idea is to limit entry to 1,000 people per day for the comfort of visitors. This will probably be done by reservation. We are still thinking regarding all of this.”
The project file can be consulted at the Ottintoise municipal administration following making an appointment (010 43 62 70 or [email protected]). It is up to the technical and delegated officials of the Region to issue the requested permit.
If the permit is granted, construction should begin in early 2024 while the opening of the spray park is hoped for June 2024.
