World Diabetes Day takes place, like every year, on November 14. The opportunity to raise awareness of the impact of diabetes on people’s health. In Wallis and Futuna, 15% of the population is diabetic, 3 times more than in France. To mark this day, various workshops and events are organized by the health agency, particularly on diet as well as screening campaigns.
More than 1,500 Wallisians and Futunians are monitored by the health agency for diabetes, or 15% of the population. Alarming figures which continue to increase over the years, 3 times more than in mainland France (5.3% of the population in 2020 according to Santé Publique France).

There are 3 types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is also called young diabetes because it is most common in children and adolescents.
Type 2 diabetes mainly affects adults, and type 3 diabetes, also called gestational diabetes, is diabetes found in pregnant women.
