This is what the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office responded to questions from the victims’ ex-husband and father regarding the investigation. “The final decision to impose a restrictive contact order and to release him was taken in consultation with the police and following an in-depth analysis of the official reports submitted to the public prosecutor’s office.“, specifies the judicial body.

The bodies of the victims aged 54 and 22 were found on Saturday in a house on Borrekent Street. The suspect, aged 51, is the husband of the 54-year-old woman and the father-in-law of her son. He is still wanted and allegedly committed an act of desperation.

The woman had filed a complaint on Friday morning for harassment once morest her husband. Their relationship lasted 18 years but following a breakup, there was harassment, although there was no question of physical assault.

The suspect was arrested and questioned at length. The public prosecutor’s office imposed a contact restriction order and the man was released. Prosecutors said they had no indication he might have committed such acts. The man indicated that he saw that the relationship was coming to an end and that he wanted to leave the house, the prosecution further clarified on Sunday.
