Migrant Crisis in Mexico: Eviction and Chaos in CDMX

The chaos of illegal emigration has returned to Mexico. In recent months, the country welcomes thousands of people from Latin America and the Caribbean who want to reach the United States.

The situation is becoming unsustainable and some of the cities that serve as shelters for these migrants can no longer cope.

The National Migration Institute (INM) is going to each of the shelters that migrants set up in Mexico City (CDMX) to record “the real number of people who arrived in the country and implement a strategy that can improve their conditions.” , reported Infobae.

According to what they have announced, the aid centers are overwhelmed and there are up to 1,500 refugees, of which nearly 300 are minors. Among the nationals of different countries, Cubans, Haitians, Salvadorans, Hondurans, Venezuelans and even those from Afghanistan stand out.

The aforementioned text indicates that the Mexican government opened 4 shelters in CDMX, but “the arrival of so many migrants was not expected so, if they continue receiving more people, they might even be closed permanently.”

Given this situation, camps have been set up on the outskirts and agents from the National Migration Institute (INM) have begun eviction operations to supposedly “relocate all those affected.”

EVICTIONS OF MIGRANTS IN CDMX

This Saturday, November 11, for example, one of these operations took place in the camp located on Insurgentes Norte Avenue and Fortuna Street, near the Potrero station on Line 3.

According to the INM, all the refugees would be transferred to the states of Chiapas and Tabasco in buses, but many of them are distrustful.

There was also another operation at the North Bus Station, where several complaints were generated because “the agents had allegedly arrived violently and destroyed their campaign houses to such an extent that several fled the scene,” the media notes.

Infobae specifies that to date the whereregardings of all the migrants who are being evicted from their camps in Mexico City are unknown.
