Surviving in the economic ecosystem of Neuquén with ventures that are not state-owned or dependent on an oil company is a rarity. About 25 years ago, the SME Center was created at the request of the State. with the idea of being a kind of incubator and greenhouse for ideas that might unfold their potential.
It is a parastatal agency that has eight directors of chambers of commerce, who work ad honorem, and three for the public sector. Training, credits, access to financing sources and other support that are born and nourished when they know the need to be covered. Its technicians are credited with the idea of raising and exporting trout from the Limay water bodies.
The current management of the SME Center celebrated its young 25 years with a peculiar exhibition, nothing more and nothing less than telling six stories of inspiring entrepreneurs.
Anabel Lucero Idizarri, general manager of the SME Center, explained that they tried to summarize the work they do to identify entrepreneurs, accompanying them to consolidate and empower them to transform into SMEs. They also saw how to accompany SMEs so that they grow, so that they become professional.
“We are always trying to ensure that our SMEs continue to grow, export, and have more and more opportunities to develop,” he said.
This is how TAO’s work was shown by Guillermo Badano, who developed a construction system that is friendly to the environment. They started with 19 homes in 2018 and today they are building 500 while selling their invention to other provinces.
Matías Reser began a decade ago with a group of friends to venture into software development. They did a market study following they met a person who worked in a company that had 400 work files and managed them by hand: pen and paper. They did a kind of survey in companies linked to the hydrocarbon activity and discovered that, indeed, 95% had manual administration of the files. They invented a program that allows them to automate this process and now they are in the Amazon cloud with the global showcase that this means.
Rocío Silka’s inspiring story combines the technical with the artisanal, with an addition that makes her venture, Mola, unique. She started in 2015 as a hobby of doing artisanal blacksmithing. “We are women doing work in overalls,” she described.
Diego García Rambeaud said that he studied at the Cinco Saltos faculty of the UNCo and, with the title of agricultural engineer under his arm, he went to Junín de los Andes to manage a field in which he developed a corral fattening system. From 2008 in a breeding establishment he went on to have his own business with 2,000 heads. It was the third corral fattening enabled by the province and developed by its own company, highlighted the former president of the Neuquén Rural Society.
Rosana Jurio started with an artisanal winery and is grateful for the support she received from the SME Center not only in training but also in opening marketing doors, such as the package system they created to sell artisanal wines together. She has her business in the town of Senillosa.
Adalberto Caldelari is the sixth entrepreneur and inspiration that the organization in charge of creating SMEs in the province showed on its silver anniversary. He said that in 1998 he received a piece of land in a rural area, in Colonia Valentina, that had been owned by his partner’s grandparents that they had planted in 1910. There was a chestnut tree that was regarding 80 years old and it was there that it occurred to him to put it into production with fruits, first they started with cherries with which they had to experiment. Then they opted for nuts and leaned toward walnut trees on the five hectares.
“At the Agency we are constantly looking for new activities that expand the economic matrix, thinking regarding the future, generating new opportunities and also being more equitable and more inclusive with the territories, because not all locations have oil and gas,” said the owner. of the SME Center.
He highlighted public-private coordination that has to do with sit permanently with the sector, analyze the demands, the topics that are of interest, that builds the work agenda.
He also highlighted the role of the Agency’s board of directors, integratingated by representatives of eight local and sectoral chambers, and by three provincial government authoritiesal.
Challenge of training entrepreneurs
The Minister of Production and Industry and president of the SME Center, Facundo Lopez Raggi, said that the relationship they have with private companies is the objective of the organization. He said that they try to do it institutionally through the cameras, which have a fundamental role above all in reading what happens on a daily basis and in the formulation of public policies and, in addition, ensuring their good implementation. .
It highlighted that it was possible to shape a way of working and an organizational culture. “It is a culture that has to do with the provision and vocation of services and with professionalization in the provision of those services.”, he noted.
The organization’s reason for being – he specified – is that there are entrepreneurs and companies that decide to invest, so it assumed the obligation and responsibility for them to develop and grow in Neuquén.
Edgardo Phielipp, executive vice president of the SME Center He indicated that, with what was presented at the event, “the change in the productive matrix of the province is visible. We have the production and export of trout, and we might continue with cherries and other examples.”
As another key contribution, he valued lThe training programs that the Agency provides. “Training is the source of personal development, so this has a very important significance,” he commented.
He assured that he is personally in charge of the organization for 23 years, two years less since it was created and made a philosophical reading. He asked himself what happiness is in terms of its temporality or permanence, and indicated that he preferred temporality and that the silver anniversary celebration was one of those moments.
“This is a change in the productive matrix,” he stated, “such as the export of trout to Japan and Canada by plane.”
He mentioned that there are between 2 and 3 thousand people who received training from the SME center in the 10,000 plan, which is a stepping stone for personal development.
He described that there are neighboring countries that have up to 60 SMEs per 100,000 inhabitants and that, on the other hand, Argentina only has 16 SMEs per 100,000 inhabitants. He made a lecture regarding the fact that what is not produced cannot be distributed and spoke in favor of achieving the development of the private sector in the province and in the country “with its successes and failures.” He stressed that the accounts were never unobserved.
