Pro-Hamas Organization Samidoun and the Impact on Pro-Palestine Demonstrations in Europe

In October, the FGTB withdrew from the pro-Palestine demonstration following the infiltration of the pro-Hamas organization Samidoun. His call to demonstrate was presented as total support for the Hamas terrorists: “Glory to the martyrs! Victory of the resistance”. At the beginning of November, the deputy MR Denis Ducarme wanted to ban the Samidoun demonstrations, as in Germany: “Unacceptable to allow a group close to Hamas terrorists to demonstrate in Belgium.”

At this stage, Samidoun is still allowed to demonstrate in Belgium. Germany ruled on the grounds that members of the organization had publicly celebrated terrorist acts committed by Hamas in Israel and had spread anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.

This revolutionary left-wing organization is active throughout Europe. The European coordinator, Palestinian refugee Mohammed Khatib, lives in Brussels. Samidoun has already organized a demonstration in Saint-Gilles during which the Hamas attack was described as “legitimate resistance”.

“Samidoun is active in Belgium and regularly participates in demonstrations,” Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden confirmed to the Chamber. “But so far without violence. She advocates the defense and release of Palestinians incarcerated in Israel. Belgium and the EU do not consider it a terrorist group.”

However, “its national collectives in Europe and North America support the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and its revolutionary and nationalist methods justifying violence once morest Israel. The PFLP is on the EU list of terrorist organizations.”

This is how a galaxy of left-wing associations imports the Israeli-Palestinian question into our streets

The minister also adds that to her knowledge, no criminal investigation has been opened in Belgium for inciting violence once morest this organization. There is, in fact, a legal framework to fight, particularly financially, once morest terrorist organizations or the organizations that support them. Acts of racism, discrimination or anti-Semitism are also punishable by law.

“In our country, citizens have fundamental rights. The right to demonstrate and freedom of expression and assembly are two of them,” adds the minister.

The federal police estimate that around sixty official or spontaneous pro-Palestinian demonstrations took place on our territory, the majority with a low to moderate number of participants. Some have brought together several thousand. This Saturday once more, a “European march for Palestine” to demand from the European Union and its member states “an immediate ceasefire in Gaza” was held in Brussels. It brought together 21,000 people according to the police, 45,000 according to the organizers

“Most of the protests took place without incident. […] Despite calls for violence by Hamas and certain preachers, and attempts at polarization and co-option by extremist groups, the situation in terms of public order remains stable. That said, a resurgence of anti-Semitic acts has been noted, as well as an upsurge in polarizing speeches,” Annelies Verlinden also indicated.
