Vandalism Causes Major Disruptions to SNCF TER Train Service in Amiens: Impact and Repairs

It is an act of vandalism which will deteriorate transport conditions. The SNCF announces in a statement that five of its TER trains stationed in the Amiens sector (Somme) were vandalized on the night of November 11 and 12. This will cause operating difficulties on several network lines for several weeks, the company warns.

According to the SNCF press release, the material damage from these acts of vandalism is “significant”. And SNCF Voyageurs cites “200 broken windows, damage to on-board IT, broken driver’s cabin consoles”. “Our equipment teams are on site to carry out a complete assessment and to prepare for the repairs which promise to be very heavy,” indicates the company. A complaint has been filed.

Smaller and deleted trains

As these trains cannot run, it is the passengers who will suffer. “This major act of vandalism will impact the TER service, particularly on the Paris-Amiens and Paris-Compiègne-Saint-Quentin lines,” notes the SNCF. “Reductions in the composition of trains (and therefore lower capacity trainsets) and the temporary elimination of certain connections on these major routes are inevitable,” she continues.

These disruptions might extend to other lines, SNCF is already anticipating, citing a period of several “weeks” before a return to normal. “The major repair of these trains will have an impact on the overall programming of our maintenance operations on all TER Hauts-de-France trains, with possible impacts on other lines. »
