The accident happened on Aartrijkestraat. The tractor with trailer, driven by a resident of Zedelgem, was traveling in the direction of Torhout, while the car was coming from the opposite direction. “For reasons still unknown, the driver of the car apparently veered out of his lane. In doing so, he hit one of the front wheels of the tractor head-on. This wheel was completely torn off. Due to the enormous impact, the car was thrown into an apartment building,” Annemie Wittesaele, spokesperson for the local police, explained to our colleagues at HLN.
According to Annemie Wittesaele, it took emergency services an hour and a half to free the victim from his car. The young man was seriously injured. “First we had to pull the car a little to reach the driver. The situation was very difficult. A traffic expert will visit the site to make the necessary findings. The tractor driver was in a state of shock,” concluded the police spokesperson.
