Not to be chosen as essential to Revolution, Sunday, was a new opportunity for Sophie Houle to perform on the show’s stage. The mission that the masters entrusted to him was to use his technique to achieve freedom in his dance.

“I am very difficult with myself and very perfectionist,” confided the 14-year-old dancer. As I want it to be perfect, for my technique to be good, it’s complicated to find freedom in that. I really tried to explore that direction as much as possible.”
The unknown and the fear of making mistakes were among the main obstacles to Sophie’s letting go. “I’m not used to letting myself go, it’s scary, I’m not comfortable in that. So we had to find comfort in freedom, which is a little scary at first, but it’s possible.”

Still wearing her pointe shoes, the ballerina nevertheless wanted to show another side of her talent. “I wanted to go to a more vulnerable side, a little softer.”
Ultimately, this experience will have profoundly transformed her. “At the end of the number, I was really proud of myself. I accomplished something I wasn’t used to doing. On stage, I had the impression that no one was looking at me anymore, I had total freedom of movement. The looks of others no longer mattered to me. Since then, I put myself in this state of mind more often when I dance, I let myself be carried away by the music a lot more.

The fact that the masters choose to keep her in the end means a lot to her. “I never thought I’d get to this point, I’m really grateful.”
