The approximately 80 caravans of travelers have all left the Bas Prés area in Mons where they had been installed for many weeks. The community was asked to leave the premises on Friday. The Mons police intervened in the followingnoon to ensure the departure of the travelers.
“They all left well,” said Nicolas Martin, mayor of Mons, on Saturday, specifying that devices preventing access to the site had been installed.
The land occupied without authorization belongs to the intercommunal company IDEA, which the City of Mons had asked to initiate a request for eviction proceedings, which the Court of First Instance had issued by order on Tuesday.
“We want to remain firm on the issue, we no longer want wild occupations of this type,” the Mons authorities indicated on Friday through the city spokesperson.
