Writers specializing in the field of suspense and mystery consider that writing in this field is more complex than others, and sometimes requires more than creativity in terms of vision and unexpected characters, considering that the writer is the voice of people seeking to share their stories.

This came during a session entitled “Revealing the Unknown… Secrets of Building Attractive Crime Investigator Characters,” which was held within the activities of the Sharjah International Book Fair in its 42nd session, and hosted the writer of detective novels KJ Howe, the Syrian writer Kenana Hatem Issa, the Emirati writer and the first female engineer. Emirati airline Dr. Suad Al Shamsi.

Kidnapping…the field of excitement

Detective writer KJ Howe explained that she had a dream to write regarding people in another world when she was in Africa, Puerto Rico and Europe, and it was exciting to find opportunities to achieve this, noting that most of her books focus on kidnapping.

KJ Howe, the most prominent writer in the field of kidnapping, added that it expresses the periods that hostages go through of fear, boredom, not knowing what will happen, and waking up in the morning without knowing whether you will be released or die, so this field is more complex than murder.

The recently awarded international award-winning detective novel writer continued, saying: I love research very much, and it adds truth to the book. I want to educate people and entertain them with writings. Therefore, we must research the world of kidnappings for a long time, and deal with the people who travel across the world to free hostages, including mothers and fathers who risk their lives. To negotiate the release of the hostages.

Writing is an adventure

In turn, Syrian writer Kenana Hatem Issa emphasized that writing is a spiritual journey that puts you in a parallel world, through which you try to create your own ideas that the world can see, pointing out that a writer can put all possible stories in the novels he tells.

Kenana explained, saying: My father was a writer and encouraged me to write creatively. I started reading books when I was ten, then I looked at my profession and decided to write exciting novels that contain mystery, stressing the importance of the writer having a message to present through what he writes.

Issa continued, “Any opportunity to write books is an adventure for me, and I do not set standards for the heroine character, but all that happens is that an idea comes to me and begins to grow, then I translate it into a literary work.” She added that writing requires more than creativity sometimes, which is Vision and unexpected characters.

The writer is the voice of the people

As for Dr. Suad Al Shamsi, novel writer and the first Emirati aeronautical engineer, she confirmed that what attracted her most to the field of writing is that each of us has two personalities; The first is what we want to show to others, and the second is the personality that we only see for ourselves in front of the mirror, noting that the book has been a friend of hers since childhood, as her mother helped her with various books.

Souad Al Shamsi continued, “The writer is the voice of the people, whether the story is real or imagined. When a story comes to mind, I want to be a voice for people seeking to share their stories; The important thing when I write is what is behind the book.

Al Shamsi indicated that she is concerned with the target age group of the book, as well as whether the book will be translated into another language, as the culture of the other country and its traditions must be respected.
