According to rheumatologist Elena Vystavkina, the consequences of COVID-19 can be unpleasant symptoms that arise due to the development of autoimmune diseases.

Rheumatologist Vystavkina explained why joint problems arise following COVID-19. In particular, people who have had coronavirus infection begin to suffer from joint pain and stiffness, back problems, and swelling in the joint areas. Vystavkina stated: these problems are a reflection of autoimmune disorders that develop as a complication of infection. Often following COVID-19, rheumatological pathologies occur in the form of such disorders.

“Symptoms of autoimmune rheumatological diseases include joint pain, swelling, morning stiffness lasting more than an hour, and inflammatory back pain that occurs at rest and at night,” – clarified doctor in an interview with KP.RU.
The rheumatologist added that autoimmune disorders in the body following infections are not a rare phenomenon. Their appearance is due to the fact that the immune system of the body into which the virus invades begins to react very violently to the pathogen. Its excessive activation causes a large number of immune cells to accumulate in tissues, causing inflammation and swelling.

Previously, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that the Hong Kong flu, which is beginning to spread in Russia, is similar in its manifestations to an intestinal infection.
