The 2021 world champion performed well in third place from Levi and also left slalom queen Mikaela Shiffrin behind. The Slovakian Petra Vlhova took her sixth victory in Lapland with a true demonstration of power in front of the German Lena Dürr (+1.41 seconds). Liensberger was 1.55 seconds behind.
Liensberger spoke on ORF regarding a “huge relief. I’m really happy that I’ve had such a successful start.” The ÖSV slalom women presented themselves as if they had changed compared to the previous year. Katharina Huber came in eighth place, Katharina Gallhuber in her comeback following a long injury break in 13th place. Katharina Troupe came in 16th place.
After the first round, a high-speed course set by ÖSV coach Klaus Mayrhofer, things looked even better. The Austrians surprised with four in the top eleven. Shiffrin coach Karin Harjo set the course for the final in a much more twisted manner, which her technically perfect protégé didn’t know how to take advantage of following a fall in training. The Austrians had a similar fate, with the exception of Liensberger.
