Digital vehicle sales reach more than 300 thousand operations completed in several states across the country

“Digital Sales”, a functionality that allows the purchase and sale of vehicles using the Digital Traffic Card (CDT) reached the mark of more than 300 thousand transactions completed between vehicle owners in different states of the country. The technology eliminates the need for signature recognition at a notary’s office, as the CDT itself validates the identities of the buyer and seller using biometrics. However, as traffic legislation requires the inspection procedure to transfer property, it is still necessary to appear at Detran.

Detran of Piauí is the last body to adopt the functionality of the Digital Traffic Card, which does not require signature recognition at a notary’s office and enters the Digital Sales system

The assessment bodies in Acre, Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Rondônia, Roraima, São Paulo, Sergipe, Tocantins. The last addition was from Detran Piauí, which is now starting to offer the functionality.

Digital Traffic Card Application

“With Digital Sales, provided by the Digital Traffic Card application, the process of buying and selling vehicles becomes much simpler, more agile and safer for the parties involved in the operation”, assesses Brenno Sampaio, Superintendent of Relationship with Final Customers at Serpro. According to Brenno, the functionality performs facial biometric validation of the buyer and seller, checks the status of the vehicle involved in the operation, allows the digital signature of the ATPVe electronic document and, finally, communicates the sale automatically at the end of the procedure.

Step by step

Through the CDT environment, the vehicle owner communicates the intention to sell to the future buyer. To do this, simply access the “Vehicles” tab, click the “Start Digital Sale” button and fill in the recipient’s CPF. From there, the vehicle registration Detran becomes aware of the action and allows the generation of the ATPV-e (Authorization for Transfer of Vehicle Ownership), which appears on the CDT and is electronically signed by both parties.

Security level

The transaction has a very high level of security, requiring authentication with a silver or gold account at the gov.br platform, in addition to facial biometrics verification for the digital signature. The owner only needs to go to Detran, at the end of the process, to carry out the inspection and transfer the vehicle.
In addition to being required to adhere to the vehicle’s state Detran, the technology is only available for documents issued, for any reason, from January 4, 2021. On this date, the old Single Transfer Document (DUT) was replaced by its digital version, called ATPV-e.
