A drunk driver (25) rammed a fallen scooter driver (50) and a first aider on the B77 in Weißkirchen, Styria on Friday night. The man was killed and the woman was critically injured. A test on the driver of the car revealed moderate levels of alcohol. The 62-year-old was taken to the LKH Judenburg and then to the LKH Graz. The driver will be reported to the Leoben public prosecutor’s office for negligent homicide, the police said.
The 50-year-old scooter driver from the Upper Styrian district of Murtal fell around 11:40 p.m. In this area, the B77 is an open road without artificial lighting. The driver of an oncoming car from the Murtal district noticed the fall, stopped his car and turned on the hazard lights. In addition to the front passenger and another person in the rear, the driver’s 62-year-old wife was also in the vehicle. She got out to administer first aid.
Shortly followingwards, the 25-year-old from the Murtal district, who was driving towards Judenburg, drove his car without braking into the man who had fallen and the first aider. The 50-year-old died at the scene of the accident and the 62-year-old was critically injured. The 25-year-old’s alcohol test was positive.
The Leoben public prosecutor ordered the seizure of the vehicles and an autopsy on the scooter driver. The relatives were notified by the police in the presence of the crisis intervention team.
