Olabi, a non-profit organization that aims to democratize production and access to technology and innovation, announces the launch of the initiative Afrocodes. With the support of JP Morgan, Olabi will carry out new training focused on training black people. With a team made up mostly of black professionals, such as technologists and psychologists, the program offers a 17-week online course, covering topics that will qualify the people selected as front-end and back-end systems developers.
With an authorial methodology composed of three pillars – qualified technical knowledge, self-knowledge and self-management – the training aims not only to qualify technical knowledge, but also to offer psycho-pedagogical support for the career and socio-emotional development of participants. It will also help meet a market demand that is increasingly urgent for professionals who know how to manage their activities, identify priorities and act autonomously.
“In an increasingly digital world, racial equity is fundamental to prevent the perpetuation of inequalities, guarantee opportunities and move towards a future in which technology acts with less and less bias. Therefore, it is very important to have the support of JP Morgan as a partner in this first edition of Afrocódigos”, comments Silvana Bahia, co-executive director of Olabi.
“With advances in Technological Languages and other innovations emerging around the globe, in addition to the systemic disadvantage that plagues black people in Brazil, I am proud to announce that JP Morgan’s Advancing Black Pathways is supporting efforts to reduce the racial gap in this sector of the national job market,” said Selma Moreira, vice president of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion with a focus on race in Latin America. “The work we are doing inside and outside Brazil in relation to creating solid economic foundations for black communities should be an invitation for other companies to do the same and join efforts to combat prejudice and create equity for all people”, he adds Moreira.
Furthermore, Afrocódigos is an opportunity for self-knowledge, new discoveries, community creation and networking with other black technologists that enable more agile growth in the job market, ensuring not only social advancement for the black population, but also solutions more complete for the market.
“Our greatest desire is to contribute to a cycle of learning that will be fundamental in the professional development of these technologists. We will look for those who are starting out in the world of programming and are committed to learning and growing in their careers”, adds Bahia.
The selection process for Afrocodes will be divided into three stages: analysis of applications, technical level test in programming and logic languages, and, finally, interviews. To apply, interested people must be black (brown or black), over 18 years old, be studying technology/computer training and have intermediate knowledge of technology. Registration can be made between October 25th and November 30th, through the page afrocodigos.olabi.com.br
