When it comes to losing belly fat, it’s easy to make mistakes. We reveal what needs to be taken into account so that the fat really disappears.
Kassel – Belly fat is stubborn; Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight knows this. Unfortunately, extra kilos are particularly harmful to your health, especially on your stomach. The risks include heart disease, diabetes, bone loss and high blood pressure. Visceral abdominal fat, which lies under the abdominal muscle and surrounds the organs, can quickly become a problem.
This is already a reality for many people: according to the German Obesity Society Around 34% of all adults in Germany are affected by “abdominal obesity”. This applies to women with a waist circumference of around 88 cm and for men with a waist circumference of over 100 cm. Even people who are not obese but have a tendency to accumulate fat, especially in the abdominal region, can be affected.
Lose belly fat: It’s all regarding the right training
For a long time, experts thought that endurance training was particularly effective for getting rid of belly fat. However, that is wrong. Of course, jogging or cycling have no negative effects on your health, but they are also not the best methods for specifically combating belly fat. That has a study from the Harvard School of Public Health showed. Accordingly, the most effective training once morest belly fat is strength training. However, you shouldn’t make the mistake of isolating individual muscle groups, such as the abdominal muscles. It is best to train the entire body.

The researchers came to these results by analyzing the physical activity, weight and waist circumference of more than 10,000 men aged 40 and over. They found that healthy men who did 20 minutes of strength training every day gained less age-related belly fat than men who spent the same amount of time doing other training. There is also a simple explanation for this: strength training builds muscles, which increases the body’s overall calorie consumption, which leads to more fat being burned.
Even if strength training leads to faster and better results in losing weight, the following still applies: A healthy and balanced diet is also important for losing belly fat, as is getting enough exercise. According to the Harvard study, the best results were achieved by those who completed both endurance and strength training. (jus)
