An Australian mother has died following using injectable drugs, such as Ozempic, to lose weight for her daughter’s wedding. Although the medication was prescribed by her doctor, she died of a gastrointestinal illness a few months later.
Trish Webster’s biggest wish was to be able to wear a very specific, but small-sized dress for her daughter’s wedding, according to what her husband Roy reports to the media 60 Minutes Australia.
“My daughter was getting married and all Trish wanted was to wear this famous dress. She went to the seamstress to take measurements. It was a real nightmare,” he adds, according to the media The Independent.
A few days later, the 56-year-old saw an advert on television for the injectable drug Ozempic. His doctor finally prescribed it in 2022, although the drug is only approved for patients with type 2 diabetes, not weight loss, according to data from the Departement of Health and Aged Care in Australia.
“I mightn’t save her”
However, several side effects appeared with taking the injectable medication, such as diarrhea, vomiting, as well as nausea, according to family information.
Trish ultimately decided to change her injectable medication from Ozempic to Saxenda to lose as much weight as possible.
She lost more than 35 pounds in five months thanks to the injections, but her condition completely deteriorated.
She died in January this year. “Something was coming out of her mouth and she finally realized that she was no longer breathing,” says her husband Roy. “I mightn’t save her, that’s the hardest part,” he concludes.
