Quebec stands out in the Readers’ Choice Awards by winning the Canada/New England destination prize for cruises in 2023.
This is the fourth time that Quebec has obtained this mention. This prize is awarded for the Canada/New England route, therefore from New York to Montreal. The results are published in the Porthole Cruise and Travel Magazinewhich is dedicated to cruise ship travel.
The name of Quebec appears alongside destinations like Bora-Bora, Singapore and Reykjavik, which stand out with their itineraries in different regions of the globe. Quebec is the only Canadian destination to win this award for the year 2023.
“It is an honor for us to receive this award for best Canadian cruise destination, at the end of a successful cruise season,” declared Mario Girard, president and CEO of the Port of Quebec.
The prize is awarded to the Port of Quebec and to the promotional organization Destination Québec cited.
“We are always happy to see that our destination stands out among cruise passengers and tourists, and that our efforts to develop the international cruise industry are bearing fruit,” underlined Robert Mercure, general director of Destination Québec.
According to the magazine’s editor and publisher, Bill Panoff, readers were seduced by the charm of Quebec, its rich history and its culinary scene.
“It’s one of the biggest magazines in the industry. For us, this kind of recognition is always very good news,” said Mr. Mercure.
“We are delighted by this recognition and it helps position us as a global destination of choice. It’s still an international journal,” he added.
Mr. Mercure considers himself very satisfied with the results of the last cruise season.
According to the St. Lawrence Cruise Association, the economic benefits of the industry amounted, in 2019, to more than $700 million annually for the province and $106 million specifically for the Quebec region.
