Vienna (OTS) – The tug-of-war over the 2024 collective agreements is entering the next round; the social partners have not been able to reach an agreement either among metal workers or in retail. The metal workers’ union is threatening the biggest strikes in a long time. The fight to adjust wages and salaries to high inflation has sparked a new debate regarding justice. The employers point to the weak economy, the unions want to prevent a loss of real wages.
How fair is the system in Austria? Is it because of the high taxes that working people have less and less left in their wallets, and are assets not taxed enough? Or is it the high inflation and the massively rising prices in many areas? Is inflation to a large extent profit-driven, with companies profiting? And how fair is it if pensions are adjusted to high inflation in 2024, but working people don’t get this increase?
Claudia Reiterer will discuss this on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 10:10 p.m. on ORF 2 in “IM ZENTRUM”.
