ICCN General Assembly gets off to a grand start

Kozhikode: Upholding the concept of ‘World Peace through Cultural Exchange’, the 9th General Assembly of the Intercity Intangible Cultural Co-operation Network, a UNESCO recognized organization, kicked off at ‘Ravis Katav’ in Kozhikode. ICCN Secretary General Julio Ramon Blasco-Natcher said that while narrow political consciousness is sowing a tense atmosphere, including in West Asia, it is possible to unite human minds through the exchange of arts and cultures. Artists have a great role to play in world peace. He opined that sarga arts and traditional arts can erase the distinctions in the human mind. He was delivering the announcement of the 9th ICCN General Assembly.

Presentations and round table discussions were held by ICCN representatives from various countries on cultural heritage conservation methods. Discussions on cultural heritage protection were also held by representatives from France, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Spain, Bangladesh, Botswana, Bahrain, Nepal, Slovakia, Iran and India.
An International Seminar on ‘Arba Nizam and Heritage Protection’ was held as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the UNESCO Heritage Declaration and to mark the bicentenary of the 2003 UNESCO Convention. In the international seminar, UNESCO Cultural Heritage International Expert and Kalinga University Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Amareshwar Galla delivered the keynote address.

Heritage Walk will be organized. A heritage ride that traces the heritage routes of Kozhikode will be a new experience for the delegates.
Side events of the assembly will also include demonstrations of leather doll making, panayola wickari making, Kathakali Kop making, mural painting and Botswana handicrafts.

On the morning of 12th, the delegates of the conference will participate in the handicraft education program organized by Ramanattukara Seva Mandir Higher Secondary School under the auspices of Thrissur Center of Handicrafts Department under the Ministry of Textiles.
The event will also be held at Iringal Sargalaya and Markus Knowledge City on the following days. Representatives of around 30 world cities such as mayors, directors of international museums, academicians and others are convening in Kozhikode for five days. The General Assembly is being organized by ICCN South Asian Regional Office Payyannur’ Folkland in collaboration with UNESCO Chair, Dorf Ketel, University of Calicut UNESCO Chair and Kalinga University.
