The workers of the Mi Bus company today collected a new portion of the salaries owed for October and only 12% remains to be received, which will be settled next Monday. Faced with this new scenario, they decided to lift the strike that they had maintained since Tuesday. and the urban transport service began to return to normal starting at 1:30 p.m.
This was confirmed by union delegate Luis Curilén following the assembly in which the decision was made.which numerous private users of the service were eagerly awaiting.
The conflict had been unleashed by a delay by the National Ministry of Transportation in sending the promised subsidy, which the concessionaire company had paid for with the payment of salaries. The solution was reached following the municipality decided to advance today a sum of 56 million pesos, which together with another smaller contribution from the company itselfa, it was enough to cover 50% of the salaries of the 240 workers.
The day before the Mi Bus staff had already received 38%, so they are now only owed 12%. Even so, they agreed to return to work, with the company’s commitment to complete their salaries next Monday. “with the new scales approved jointly.”
The advance of money provided by the municipality and by the company itself will be compensated with the national subsidy that will arrive no earlier than next Fridayas acknowledged by Mayor Gustavo Gennuso.
A strike that had started on Tuesday night
The forceful measure had left the city without buses since Tuesday followingnoon. Today was the third day in which thousands of workers and students had to travel by taxi, on foot, hitchhiking, by bicycle or by other alternative means, since the white Mi Bus buses had disappeared from the streets.
In radio statements, The mayor acknowledged that due to “the bureaucracy of the deposits”, if the UTA union maintained its decision not to work without daily salaries and the money did not appearthe continuation of the strike for another week was going to impose “an unbearable situation for the city.”
Today in the morning Gennuso signed resolution 3,496/I/2023 by which he authorized the issuance of a payment order in favor of Amancay SRL (Mibus) for 56,184,000 pesos.
During the weeka had already blamed the province for the delay in the surrenders that led to the subsidy being withheld. In the resolution he also put it in writing. He maintained the need to resolve the strike, which “puts social peace in check,” and highlighted the reason for the crisis that “The provincial State does not make the deposits of the public transportation subsidy in a timely manner, nor does it make the due submission of the national contributions.”
That is why the municipality decided to cover “the gap in payments” for the September 2023 period with an interim contributionand thus overcome the obstacles that until now prevented “the provision of the service on a regular basis.”
