A Apple agreed to pay US$25 million to solve a United States Department of Justice case (United States Department of Justiceor DoJ), in which she was accused of illegally discriminating once morest American citizens in hiring.

According to a statement released by the DoJApple “showed bias” once morest American workers as part of recruitment for PERM (Permanent Labor Certificationor permanent labor certification program).

More precisely, although it was designed to allow companies to support foreign workers, the program stipulates that employers cannot disadvantage applicants who may be citizens or already have authorization to work in the US.

In practice, Apple required American job applicants to apply for the position by mail — and not electronically, as it does for other positions, which made it more difficult to hire people outside the program, according to the DoJ indictment.

Creating illegal barriers that make it more difficult for someone to seek employment because of their citizenship status will not be tolerated.

Kristen ClarkeDeputy Attorney General of the DoJ’s Civil Rights Division.

Em a statement sent to Archyde.com, Apple said that when it realized it “had not voluntarily followed the DoJ standard,” it opted for a settlement that “addresses its concerns.” The company added that it has “implemented a robust remediation plan” to comply with the requirements of multiple government agencies as it continues to hire American workers and grow in the US.

Still according to information from the department, the US$25 million includes US$18.25 million in retroactive payments to affected individuals and US$6.75 million in fines.
