The Ministry of Health issued a statement, saying: “The Ministry of Public Health in Lebanon expresses its condemnation and denunciation of the targeting of Mays al-Jabal Hospital in southern Lebanon, which resulted in the injury of a health worker and damage to the emergency department, in flagrant defiance of all international laws and treaties.”
She stressed that “targeting health facilities and their workers constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law, and puts the lives of innocent and sick people at risk.”
The Ministry of Public Health held the Israeli authorities fully responsible for this unjustified action, which would have led to catastrophic results if the artillery shell that targeted the hospital had exploded.
She called on the international community, United Nations institutions, and the International Committee of the Red Cross “to carry out their duties to ensure the protection of medical facilities and their workers, and to ensure that such aggressive acts are not repeated.”
The Ministry also called for “a comprehensive and fair investigation to hold those responsible for these crimes accountable,” stressing that “protecting public health and safety is one of the highest humanitarian duties, and must be above any political or military considerations.”
In this context, the director of Mays al-Jabal Hospital, Hussein Yassin, confirmed to LBCI, “The emergency department at Mays al-Jabal Hospital was damaged as a result of the Israeli bombing, and the emergency doctor was slightly injured.”
The National Agency reported, “An enemy artillery shell of 155 caliber fell in the courtyard of Mays al-Jabal Governmental Hospital, without exploding, thanks to divine providence.”
