Government wants to tax purchases below US$50 by the end of the year, industry reveals
The government wants to start charging import taxes for international purchases below US$50. The information was revealed by industry representatives following a meeting with the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad.
According to these people, the charge should take place by the end of the year and the measure is seen as a way to guarantee equality between national companies and retailers such as Shein and AliExpress.
In practice, charging a 20% federal tax for purchases below US$50 is being studied, and you must add this to the 17% ICMS. This charge will always be made at the time of purchase.
Orders that exceed the US$50 barrier must pay 60% federal taxes. In other words, the rule that already applies today. For now, the government remains silent on the matter.

Sales of the iPhone 15 line produce historic records for Apple
Apple managed to reach a historic revenue record with the launch of the iPhone 15 family. As a result, despite the problems, the devices have achieved good performance in the main global markets.
The information was confirmed by the company’s CEO, Tim Cook. For him, this is the result of the “unparalleled loyalty” of iPhone users. At the investor conference, the executive also revealed that service revenues also grew in the third quarter of 2023.
Another issue involving Apple this week includes rumors regarding the company wanting to produce its own batteries for the 2025 iPhone 17 line. The idea is to reduce dependence on third parties and also use a new material to improve the performance of the components.
This might result in increased autonomy by replacing lithium ions with a mixture of nickel, cobalt, manganese and aluminum.
PS5 has already sold 20 million more units than Xbox Series X|S
According to data released this week, the PlayStation 5 has sold almost 20 million more units than the Xbox Series S and X worldwide since their launch.
This shows that even though it has a more accessible version, from a price point of view, Microsoft’s video game was unable to surpass Sony’s.
To make matters worse, we must remember that Microsoft has considerably increased the price of the Xbox Series S here in Brazil, something that might lead many people to “the Sony side of the force”.
Xiaomi 14 Ultra might be launched with Sony photographic sensor, says rumor
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is on the Chinese manufacturer’s launch radar and the device should be presented in early 2024. According to new information released this week, the device may have a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-900 main sensor.
This sensor will be able to significantly improve the quality of photos and videos taken in both well-lit and low-light environments. The device also has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset confirmed, in addition to the AMOLED screen and the battery with 120W fast charging.
Another important highlight this week is the sales of the Xiaomi 14 family in China. According to Lei Jun, CEO and founder of Xiaomi, more than 1 million units of the devices have already been sold.
Demand is so high that the company has faced shortages of some models, such as the Xiaomi 14 Pro made from titanium. The global launch of smartphones might end up being delayed until 2024.
Galaxy S24 Plus and S24 Ultra have batteries certified by Anatel
The Galaxy S24 Plus and Ultra had their batteries certified by Anatel. The information was published by the regulatory agency earlier this week.
According to data from Anatel, the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s battery has a capacity of 5,000 mAh and the Plus model adopts 4,900 mAh.
It is worth remembering that, as in the case of the Galaxy S23 FE, the Galaxy S24 line should arrive in Brazil with an Exynos chipset, with only the Ultra model perhaps having the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Another relevant point is that new rumors indicate that the Ultra model will also be the only one to feature titanium construction. For now, Samsung is silent, but the leaks continue to happen.
In any case, the rumor of a release scheduled for January 17, 2024 is becoming increasingly credible.
