Polka Gallery welcomes its new exhibition: Drivebys de Brian Bowen Smith. A photographic journey aboard his Pick Up from the 1950s through Covid America. He presents it like this:

In the midst of Covid 19 confinement, you have to leave. Leave so as not to suffocate, not to go completely crazy.
Cross the United States from South to North, then return to the West, go down to the East then to the South; a journey in the shape of an eight, meeting friends, strangers, deserts, cities, lost holes to photograph through the frame of the windows of a solid pick-up from the 50s: separated from people, Covid obliges, but with them. Seize these moments so as not to forget who we were during this period which surprises and reveals us.
This very special time which has frozen everything, except perhaps those who live outside, quick to open a discussion, proud to demonstrate their personality, sometimes with a gesture, or simply by posing without expressing more than their humanity, their freedom. Always in touch with the horizons of the American landscapes, with their family, with their tribes.
This is the story: that of the America of Avedon, the America of Robert Franck, America on edge, when it is necessary to remember that each person represents something. And a Family even more. And a community even more than that.

Thanks to Valerie Kersz, its exhibition curator and specialist in American photography.
