Remembering Thomas Monjoie: Honoring a Fallen Police Officer in Brussels-North

One year ago to the day, Thomas Monjoie, a police officer on patrol and his colleague, were stabbed near rue d’Aerschot in Schaerbeek. Thomas Monjoie did not survive this attack which would later be described as terrorist. His colleague was injured in the arm. This Friday, the Brussels-North police zone (Schaerbeek, Saint-Josse-ten-Noode and Evere) and politicians will pay tribute to him.

“On November 10, 2022, the Brussels-North police zone was plunged into the darkest chapter of its history. November 10, 2022 is a date that has left an indelible mark on the heart of our police zone. Two of our colleagues, Thomas and Jason, were attacked during their patrol. Jason was seriously injured. Thomas lost his life. A shock for our police zone and for the entire police community. It is important that this tragedy and the circumstances surrounding it are never forgotten! », Declares Olivier Slosse, head of the Brussels-North police zone, in a press release.

“One year following these dramatic events, our police zone makes it a duty to commemorate the memory of Thomas and support Jason and all the police officers affected by the attack of November 10, 2022. Such violence once morest women and “men whose vocation is to protect our society is intolerable and we must pay tribute to them”, unanimously add the mayors of the three municipalities concerned, Cécile Jodogne acting mayor of Schaerbeek, Emir Kir mayor of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode and Ridouane Chahid mayor of Evere.

A moment of contemplation is organized this Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the presence of the Prime Minister, Alexander De Croo, the Minister of the Interior, Annelies Verlinden, and the Minister of Justice, Paul Van Tigchelt as well as the three mayors of the area of Brussels North police, at the rue de Brabant police station

The head of the corps Olivier Slosse will speak under a commemorative plaque inaugurated the same morning. Finally, a minute of silence will close this moment of contemplation.

On November 10, 2022, Yassine Mahi, the author of the attack registered with Ocam, went to the police station to ask for help and warn that he risked attacking the police. The individual was transferred by a patrol to the hospital where he was to receive psychological care. Yassine Mahi, however, left the scene before being examined. A few hours later, he crossed paths with the two police officers, signaled to the driver to roll down his window before stabbing him.
