Cardiocean: Leading Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic in Nouvelle Aquitaine Region

2023-11-09 06:30:00

Our establishment was created in 1991 by Jean-Pierre Marty and Jean-Pierre Perrot, two cardiologists. We initially had 60 full hospitalization beds. Today we have a capacity of 80 beds for full hospitalization. Our day hospital has 20 places.

What is the number of employees? Patients welcomed in 2022?

We have around 80 employees. We currently have five cardiologists (including two part-time) between full hospitalization and the day hospital, two general practitioners with a new doctor arriving soon, and a diabetologist present on site one day a week. We are in the process of recruiting a new cardiologist to expand the team and allow us to develop all the projects that are close to our hearts. We welcomed 1,990 patients in 2022. The clinic is approved by Social Security and approved by mutual insurance companies.

Rehabilitation at Cardiocean includes the gradual resumption of physical activity.

What is the nature of the care you offer?

Cardiocean is a medical care and rehabilitation establishment specializing in cardiovascular pathologies. Our clinic mainly cares for patients suffering from cardiovascular conditions and requiring rehabilitation. We also have a specialty in cardio-onco-rehabilitation in a day hospital.

You are one of the only entities in the department to provide cardiac rehabilitation care, where do your patients come from?

They come mainly from the Nouvelle Aquitaine region and more particularly from the old Poitou-Charentes region. A little more than half of our patients, 54% precisely, arrive from home. They are sent to us mainly by the La Rochelle hospital center, but also from university hospitals in Bordeaux, Poitiers and Nantes. They also come, marginally, from other health establishments in the region.

You are part of a large group, Clinea-Orpea, is that an advantage?

Yes, completely. Having the support of a large group allows us to more easily create links between health establishments. We also benefit from support functions that help us on a daily basis, whether for human resources, payroll, management of supplier invoices, the legal aspect, etc. In addition, during the health crisis, the group quickly provided us with procedures in order to overcome this period without major problems. It’s very reassuring to be able to rely on seasoned professionals.

Few people who have heart surgery follow a rehabilitation course, is this a hindrance to your development?

Not at all because cardiac rehabilitation is being offered to more and more patients. We also have an important prevention component during stays. In addition, being one of the only centers in the territory, we are absolutely not faced with a lack of requests.

What are your projects ?

For the comprehensive hospitalization sector, we wish to maintain as a priority our sectors established for several decades with the university hospital centers of Bordeaux, Nantes, Poitiers and the La Rochelle hospital around cardiovascular rehabilitation. With a view to meeting the growing needs of the territory, we are working on several other proposals, such as the development of bridges with the diabetology department of the La Rochelle hospital center as part of a primary prevention project for patients with a very high vascular risk.
