“The ICRC is very concerned regarding the attack on the humanitarian convoy in Gaza this Tuesday [7 de noviembre]. It also reminds the parties of their commitments to international humanitarian law, according to which they must respect and protect humanitarian workers,” the note says.
The column made up of five ICRC trucks and two cars was attacked while transporting medicines to medical facilities, including the Palestine Red Crescent Al-Quds Hospital. Two trucks were damaged and one driver was slightly injured.
After the incident, the column changed route and headed to Al-Shifa hospital, where it unloaded the medicines. The ICRC group then accompanied six ambulances with seriously injured patients to the Rafah border crossing, adjacent to Egypt.
In response to the surprise attack by Hamas, the Israeli Army mobilized 300,000 reservists, launched several waves of airstrikes, and on October 28, Netanyahu announced that Israeli troops passed through the gates of Gaza by land and proceeded to the second phase of the war to destroy Hamas infrastructure and recover the hostages. Since October 9, Israel has kept the Palestinian enclave without basic supplies, although on the 16th it restarted the water supply to southern Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of civilians are displaced. Numerous countries called on Israel and Hamas to stop hostilities and negotiate a ceasefire, as well as voices in favor of a two-state solution as the only possible way to achieve lasting peace in the region.
To date, hostilities have caused more than 1,400 deaths and almost 5,500 injuries in Israel, and some 10,300 deaths and 25,900 injuries in the Gaza Strip, according to the latest available data.
