ROGERS — Jane Hartford Dickey, 84, passed away peacefully at her home Nov. 4, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Jane was born Sept. 21, 1939, in East Palestine, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Robert S. and Florence E. (Hay) Hartford. She was preceded in death by Larry M. Dickey, the love of her life, and one brother, John. She is survived by two brothers, Robert S. (Linda) Hartford and James T. (Diane) Hartford, and two sisters, MaryAnn (Bob) Gilliam and Wendy (Bill) Tyger.
Jane was a 1957 graduate of East Palestine High School where she was a majorette in the marching band and active in Camp Fire girls while growing up. She married her high school sweetheart, Larry M. Dickey, Aug. 21, 1957. They had three daughters, Sally, Mary and Marcy.
Jane was a devoted mother and a Girl Scout leader for many years while the family lived in Lakewood, Ohio. She attended college at Cleveland State University and graduated from Youngstown State University with her degree in teaching in the early 1970s. She was a frequent substitute teacher at several local school systems.
Jane was a Christian by faith and active for many years at the East Palestine First Presbyterian Church as well as in the choir and multiple performances at Christmas time. She was active in raising and competing in NAVDA hunting dog field trials with her husband throughout the United States. She loved her horses and trail riding in the Pennsylvania Mountains.
Jane will be dearly missed by her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sally Dickey Beight, Mary Dickey (Sid Harvey) and Dr. Marcy Dickey (Mike Frase), as well as her 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Jane was many things to many people — to some a wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and caregiver, but to everyone she met she was a blessing. She frequently put others’ needs in front of her own. She always had an ear to listen, a hug to give, a hand to help, a tissue to wipe a tear, and a smile to let you know that she really cared regarding you. She loved and cared for many people without judgment or prejudice. As a tribute to her memory let’s try to be more like her.
The family has entrusted the arrangements to the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine, Ohio. A memorial service will be held Nov. 11, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the East Palestine First Presbyterian Church. A luncheon will follow at Jane Dickey’s home in Rogers, Ohio.
We also wanted to thank Ohio Living Hospice and a very special thank you to Samantha Koseck for her love and special care.
