The Canadiens face the Lightning on RDS and RDS.ca.

SUMMARY: Lightning 4 – CH 2 (3rd period)

After an unsuccessful trip with a harvest of only one point out of a possible six, the Canadiens returned to the Bell Center with the desire to return to the path of victory, Tuesday, while the Tampa Bay Lightning are visiting Montreal.

Author of nine points in his last two games, Nikita Kucherov has done more damage. After a turnover in the neutral zone, Brandon Hagel served him a nice cross-ice pass and Kucherov beat Jake Allen following just 22 seconds to collect his 10th goal of the campaign.

Still overwhelmed by the Lightning, the CH was then fooled by Nick Paul to double the lead. Paul shot into a gaping cage by collecting Steven Stamkos’ putback while he was poorly guarded.

Present on the ice for the opponent’s first two goals, Mike Matheson’s tough start to the evening continued when Alex Barré-Boulet’s shot deflected off his skate to make it 3-0 following only 9:09 .

Jake Allen also messed up on Michael Eyssimont’s goal and in the same way that Ilya Samsonov lost his net in the first period barely 24 hours ago once morest the Bolts, the CH goalkeeper suffered the same fate following having also surrendered four times on nine throws.

Samuel Montembeault took over and he notably stood out on a breakaway from Eyssimont and another breakthrough from Brayden Point. The CH overall performed better in the second period, but was unable to take advantage of the opponent’s indiscipline to try to get back on track.

His brilliance helped slow the slide and his attack rewarded him with two goals in the third period. Captain Nick Suzuki spoiled Matt Tomkins’ shutout by finally making the massive attack work, then Michael Pezzetta cut the lead to 4-2 once morest Tampa, which suffered a comeback the day before once morest Toronto.

Pre-match notes

Rafael Harvey-Pinard was back at practice this morning, but will not be in uniform to face the Lightning.

If the CH experienced difficulties during its trip to Vegas, Arizona and Saint Louis, the trio of veterans continued to produce led by Sean Monahan who is at the heart of a five-game point streak.

Monahan has 10 points in 11 games this season, just one less than Cole Caufield who leads the CH in this regard. His companions Brendan Gallagher and Tanner Pearson also got off to a good start with eight and seven points respectively.

Juraj Slafkovsky will have another opportunity to showcase himself on the top line with Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield. After an assist in the first game of the season, Slafkovsky was held off the scoresheet for the next nine games. He scored his first of the season once morest the Blues on Saturday.

The Slovak scored his goal on the second wave of the power play, so the winger alongside Caufield and Suzuki has yet to score this season.

Jake Allen, who won the Molson Cup for the month of October, is the starting goalie.

Still without Andrei Vasilevskiy, Jon Cooper will trust Matt Tomkins to face the Habs, since Jonas Johansson was in front of the Tampa net in Toronto on Monday evening.

Jordan Harris will have quite a challenge ahead of him as the young defenseman will be paired with Michael Matheson on the first defense pairing. The pair will have the difficult task of slowing down Nikita Kucherov who has nine points in his last two games.
