This season, Tsutsugo said, “I had a lot of opportunities to return to Japan and play for several NPB teams, but I chose to stay here. I ended up playing in an independent league. From there, I just… He never gave up. He asked me, “What can I do to get back to a major league team?” The Giants (following doing well in the independent leagues) gave him a great opportunity. I returned to 3A and was on the verge of being called up (to the majors),” he recalls.

Looking ahead to next season, which will be his fifth year in the U.S., he said, “I am extremely excited to sign a contract outside the 40-man roster with an MLB team and participate in the major league camp (spring training) as an invited player. I’m confident in that,” he said. He is currently back home and said, “I got hit by a pitch in the last game of the season and broke my finger.” “I don’t know for sure (if he’s started swinging yet), but I’m sure he will soon.” ” he revealed.

Tsutsugo signed a minor league contract with the Rangers in January of this year, but was not promoted to the major leagues. He decided to leave in June and spent July as an independent. He joined Staten Island of the Atlantic League on August 1st and signed a minor league contract with the Giants on August 22nd. He played in 68 games in 2A and 3A in the minors, hitting .260 with 10 home runs and an .858 OPS, but his fourth year was his first without a major league appearance.
