-“We wanted something beautiful!”
– “Frankly, it’s a success!”
– “We wanted it to bring comfort and well-being.”

Claudine and Colette arrived with bags full of hats, at the premises of the League Against Cancer, Tuesday, November 7, followingnoon. Volunteers within the Lady of the Unicorn, they handed them over to Claude Eschmann, the president of this association, who has just completed its Pink October operation, in favor of breast cancer screening and fundraising.

“We have our conviviality group, every Thursday, I will offer them to the participants,” the latter is already considering, delighted with the models. So useful, these little head protectors, aesthetic and suitable for all heads whose hair falls out due to treatment for illness.

In some perspective

A trauma for some women! Claudine and Colette, themselves affected by the past, one in her flesh, the other in those around her, know something regarding it.

“You can always have compassion, but experiencing it yourself allows you to measure what people are going through. The goal is to support women, to bring them well-being, something that contributes to self-esteem. The hat protects both from the cold and from the way we look at ourselves and others. It allows them to reconnect with a certain bodily integrity,” argues Claudine, a former nurse. .

Recycled t-shirts

It is with knowledge of the good cause and with an extra bit of soul that these two Unicornières and other little hands made these headdresses, from a hundred second-hand t-shirts which were offered to them by the Secours populaire de Chartres and the Solidarity Recyclery of Reconstruct together, in Mainvilliers.

Supported by the latter, the Lady of the Unicorn also organized seven workshops, between April and October, open to all, to help make these hats.
From these textiles, in cotton jersey, more appropriate for their future use, which were sorted, washed, ironed, the volunteers let their creativity and their technique speak for themselves to create 80 headgears, using the initial patterns of the t-shirts, adding flowers, hearts… “Each one represented three hours of work”, explains Colette, the workshop leader, who imagined and created the pattern, from which all the pieces were made. Each hat comes with a pouch in the same fabric, so you can store it and slip it into your bag…

Distributed in hospitals

If she would have taken more, because of the needs that came back to her, Claude Eschmann measures what effort and commitment it took for the Licornières to achieve this result.

The president of the League Against Cancer reserves three or four copies for members of the conviviality group, the rest will be distributed to the hospitals of Chartres-Le Coudray, Dreux, Châteaudun and Mainvilliers. “It will make people happy,” the president of the League Against Cancer already knows.
