It happens to all of us that when we see a familiar face from cinema once more following many years we react with surprise. The amazement is greater when we realize that time did not pass for that person. What’s more, it seems that the clock has stopped for his cause, or that he has an eternal pact with youth.

That is the case of Patsy Pepping, ‘the Mexican Kim Basinger’, who established a new female profile in action films during the 80s and now plays Gloria Ruiz, the mother of Gloria Trevi in the Serie They are me, by ViX.

If you put your memory to work and go back 35 years in time, you may remember her as the young woman who co-starred with popular idols of the action genre such as Álvaro Zermeño, Sergio Goyri, Fernando Almada, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez and Edgardo Gazcón. She also shared credits with Vicente Fernández.

Contrary to other female stars of that time, Patsy was distinguished by sobriety in her image and her characters. Although she was associated with Kim Basinger because of her blonde hair, skin color and physique, she did not play roles loaded with sensuality or eroticism. She was simply identified that way because of her physical characteristics.

Although there were blonde actresses standing out in popular cinema, such as Angélica Chaín, Felicia Mercado and Roxana Chávez, Patsy caught the attention of producers for her jovial personality. The freshness of her profile was novel to capture a young audience that was not yet fully involved with the titles that came to theaters; was projected as the box office magnet of a budding generation.

While it is true that Patsy was attracted by her beauty, the women she played in The golden hunk (1986), Heritage of brave men (1986), The devil, the saint and the fool (1987), The law of the streets (1989) y MI revenge (1990), were characterized by not resorting to the resource of showing the body. In her case, the costumes were long dresses, jeans and leather jackets. And that speaks to what she wanted to convey: to show herself as an actress without distracting the viewer with her figure.

One more feature of her participation in the cinema was that she played noble girls, loving with their partners and loyal to their values. She broke out of the mold that other stars played as heroines or criminals. It is likely that her choice to be a good girl in the movies was a way to balance her misdeeds as a soap opera villain The years go by (1985), The secret path (1986) y Poor señorita Limantour (1987).

His career was on the rise in film, television and music. Ah yes, her talent extended to singing with the release of two albums which unfortunately did not have the expected success. However, despite that episode of her misfortune, she positioned herself as one of the most complete actresses of her period. But right at the height of her career, she disappeared.

Throughout the ’90s he stopped appearing on screens. Except for a brief participation showing herself in a bikini in the film Holy mess (1995), did nothing else.

What happened? Nothing terrible. Rather, quite the opposite. She dedicated herself to fulfilling a dream. Which? Becoming a mom and starting a family. She has three children.

It was in 2000 when he returned to television with the soap opera You are my Destiny. From then to date he has had an active although irregular career, as there are considerable periods of time in which he has not been seen in the picture. Now that she reappeared with the Gloria Trevi series, Patsy reconnects with that audience that has her in mind due to her time in action films and soap opera villains.

At 60 years old he shows that age is just a number. She is fully capable of playing evil or other characters that are far from clichés for women her age.

Will the cinema reopen its doors? It would be interesting to see what the reinvention of ‘the Mexican Kim Basinger’ is like on the big screen almost 40 years later.
