Priscilla Presley never remarried following her divorce from Elvis Presley because she said no one “might have ever matched” her ex-husband.
The 78-year-old actress married the singer in 1967 and they had a daughter together – Lisa Marie Presley – before divorcing in 1973. Priscilla had other romantic relationships, but she never returned to the altar , even following the King’s death in 1977.
During a question-and-answer session at South Point Casino in Las Vegas, Priscilla explained that she had vowed to never remarry as long as her former husband was alive.
She explained: “I don’t think he might have handled it.”
However, she kept her promise even long following her husband’s death. Priscilla added: “To be honest with you, I never wanted to marry following him. I never wanted to. No one might ever match him.”
Elvis was just 42 when he died and Priscilla recently admitted the tragedy had always haunted her. During an interview with Piers Morgan for TalkTV, she explained that the news was broken to her by Joe Esposito, Elvis’ tour manager.
She said: “I can still hear Joe Esposito saying to me, ‘Cilia, Elvis is dead.’ I mightn’t imagine it, especially at his age, still so young, wanting to do so many things and having so many plans, and not having him, not talking to him, not having him as the father of our child. My big fear was Lisa, and how to tell her. She was only 9 years old at the time.”
