ALGIERS – The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni chaired a coordination meeting devoted to the examination of practical measures relating to the regulation of the market of widely consumed food and agricultural products and the preparation of the agricultural season 2023-2024, the ministry said in a press release on Monday.
The meeting, held on Sunday at the ministry’s headquarters in the presence of ministry executives and representatives of the Ministry of Commerce and Export Promotion, as well as representatives of the various establishments and offices under supervision, focused mainly on practical measures relating to the regulation of the market for widely consumed food and agricultural products.
Participants discussed several important and priority issues, including preparation for the 2023-2024 agricultural season and the progress of the combine harvest campaign.
“In this context, the latest measures taken to ensure the success of this season’s combine harvest campaign were discussed, particularly with regard to the mobilization of agricultural inputs (fertilizers and seeds), as well as the evaluation preparations underway on the ground, with inspection commissions sent to all grain-producing wilayas,” specifies the same source.
In this context, instructions were given to support legume producers by making seeds available and increasing the cultivated area.
For his part, the representative of the Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion presented an exhaustive presentation on the new distribution map of milk in subsidized sachets, a measure put in place with a view to modernizing monitoring and control by agents of the trade directorates and by all the competent services at the level of all the wilayas, with the aim of guaranteeing the availability of this product in all regions of the country.
The minister praised the efforts made to ensure perfect coordination between the two sectors, and to digitize the distribution map of raw materials to public and private dairies.
The meeting also made it possible to present the list of agricultural products concerned by the definition of profit margins for certain essential consumer products.
At the end of this meeting, firm instructions were given to ensure “efficient and prompt” handling of all concerns raised, particularly those related to the supply of red and white meat to the market, eggs, the aim being to offer these products to consumers at affordable prices.
The meeting took place in the presence of the Secretary General of the National Agricultural Chamber (CNA), a representative of the National Union of Algerian Peasants (UNPA), the Secretary General of the National Union of Algerian Traders and Artisans (UNCAA) , as well as representatives of the National Association of Milk Transporters and Distributors, the National Federation of Poultry Farmers, the National Association of Red Meat Importers, the National Interprofessional Council of the Cereal Sector, in addition to economic operators operating in the production of legumes.
