The Chicago Blackhawks held a players-only meeting following Sunday’s 4-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils.

The Blackhawks were outshot 40-34 in the loss that improved their record to 4-7-0 this season, with losses in five of their last seven games. The team is just 1-3 at home.

“Basically it’s regarding being responsible and playing with the system that we put in place during training camp and during the first games of the season,” commented veteran Corey Perry regarding this meeting . “We do it at times, but we have to do it for the duration of the game. We had a good face-to-face discussion and we’re going to move forward. »

Perry is one of several new faces on the rebuilding Blackhawks, along with Taylor Hall, Nick Foligno and Connor Bedard, the first overall pick in the last draft.

Chicago is looking to take a step forward this season following finishing with the third-worst record in the league last year in the first season under Luke Richardson.

“I didn’t participate in it and that’s a good thing,” Richardson said of Sunday’s postgame meeting. “I think they heard me talk enough before and during the match. If they feel there is something to be said, it usually goes further when leaders and those who feel the need to speak out do so. »

The Blackhawks only have three games remaining in the next 12 days, including two once morest the Tampa Bay Lightning. Chicago will visit the Lightning on Thursday before staying in Florida to face the Panthers on Sunday, then enjoying a little more time off before hosting the Lightning the following Thursday.
