After more than a decade of performing around central Ohio, the Hashtag Comedy Co. is putting down roots.
The improv troupe is opening a comedy club at 1253 N. High St. in the Short North, offering shows, workshops, corporate gigs and more.
Hashtag will hold its grand opening with several events including a variety show, an open mic event and its “improvised musical” Thursday through Saturday.
“We mightn’t be more excited,” said Matthew White, one of the co-founders of the company. “This venue will serve as a creative and dynamic space for talented comedy performers to showcase their craft, as well as a place for the community to come together and enjoy laughter, fun, and entertainment.”
The venue, which formerly housed District Art and Apparel, will seat 50 to 60 guests. Hashtag has applied for a liquor license but for now will have drinks available for special occasions, such as its grand opening, said Hannah Romes, a Hashtag co-owner with Chris Heiberger.
Hashtag Comedy Co. started in 2012 and has performed in various venues including Natalie’s, Woodlands Tavern and Kafé Kerouac.

“As a comedy performance and production company that has been performing/producing in Columbus for over a decade, Hashtag Comedy Company is ecstatic regarding the opportunities a physical comedy club will offer us and the greater Columbus comedy scene,” said Romes.
