Undernutrition is the disease of loss of appetite, which does indeed exist in an affluent society and constitutes a real public health issue.
According to the organizers of this week of action, malnutrition affects one in three hospitalized patients; 40% of cancer patients; one child in ten hospitalized; 5 to 10% of elderly people at home; 30 to 40% of nursing home residents; a third of Alzheimer’s patients. In total, more than 2 million people are affected each year.
Against this scourge, among other measures, a national undernutrition week has been created since 2020 to raise awareness among the general public and health professionals.
